Lynn, Massachusetts native Drew Russo has spent his life working for others. He’s done great things as Executive Director of the Lynn Museum / LynnArts, playing a vital role in beautifying this blue collar coastal town. During the year he lived in Detroit, Drew worked for the NOAH Project (Networking, Organizing, and Advocating for the Homeless), strengthening his commitment to social justice. He’s also worked for multiple political campaigns, helping public servants work toward progressive policies.
In 2018, he looked to help others through lawmaking, running for State Representative of the Massachusetts, 11th Essex District, serving Lynn and Nahant. Prior to the campaign launch, I had the pleasure of working with Drew on his logo.
We both wanted a design that, without being too out-there, wasn’t your typical campaign logo (candidate name slapped on the shape of the state, maybe a star somewhere). We wanted something simple that would stand out. Since name recognition would be crucial, I made his name the central focus, setting it in Rockwell Bold, a strong, classic typeface. The upward slant provided not only visual interest but also a symbol of Drew’s progressive credentials and goals to continue this district’s upward trajectory.
