The Bridgewater Bolts, a youth lacrosse team in Massachusetts, needed a new look, something to help them stand out in their league and attract new players. They decided to go for a mascot, something that would appeal to young male athletes by conveying a mix of fun and intimidation. When working with the name “Bolts,” who better to embody that spirit of competition than ancient Greece’s supreme god of thunder, Zeus?
The simple, head-on glare of Zeus in team colors red and yellow creates a menacing look to inspire confidence in the players with additional power conveyed by crossed bolts and a solid typeface. Individual elements such as the face and the wordmark can easily be pulled apart to work as standalone elements. I also created a secondary double-B mark to retain brand strength in situations that call for extra simplicity.
